Origin: introduced in 1947 by Paul H. Shepard of the Missouri State Fruit
Experiment Station, Mountain Grove, Missouri. Stanley x President. P.
domestica. European type plum. Fruit: attractive, large, average weight was 55
g in Frelighsburg, oblong to ovate to oval; cavity: medium depth, narrow;
apex: slightly depressed; suture: wide, shallow; stem: long (20-22 mm),
medium width; skin: dark blue, heavy bloom; flesh: yellow, firm, soluble
solids are 17.5 % at maturity; stone: free; flavor: delicious, sweet; quality:
good; ripening season: September 23 in La Pocatiere. Tree: hardy in La
Pocatiere (rates 9 on 10 for hardiness), hardy in Frelighsburg although it can be
damaged by very harsh winters at that site (the damage does not seem to affect
production too much), vigorous, very large, easily reaching 20 feet tall, requires ladders

for harvesting and pruning, upright
with good apical dominance, starts bearing at 5 years; yield: very
good in Frelighsburg, 9 years after planting in La Pocatiere yield
was 33.2 kg/tree on clay soil and 35.9 kg/tree on sandy loam,
yields for year 10 and 11 decreased to an average of 20.9 kg/tree
on clay and 21.6 kg/tree on sandy loam; flowering: in La Pocatiere,
starts May 24 (range May 22-26) and lasts 14-19 days, full bloom
occurs May 28-30. Other: tested as PL-218, sibling of Bluefre,
prune type plum, fruit hangs on tree in good condition after normal
harvest time, self-unfruitful, sets well with pollen of California
Blue, Stanley, Italian and Verity, variety recommended for Quebec
growing conditions.

pruinée; chair : jaune, ferme,
renfermant 17,5 % de solides
solubles à maturité; noyau : libre;
saveur : délicieuse, sucrée; qualité
: bonne; époque de maturité : le
23 septembre à La Pocatière. Prunier : rustique à La Pocatière (cote de 9 sur 10), rustique à
Frelighsburg (dans cette localité, les hivers très rudes peuvent causer des dommages, mais
ceux-ci ne semblent pas nuire beaucoup à la production), vigoureux, très grand, atteignant
facilement une hauteur de 20 pieds, exigeant une échelle pour la cueillette et l’émondage, dressé
avec bonne dominance apicale, produisant à partir de 5 ans; rendement : à Frelighsburg très bon, à
La Pocatière 33,2 kg/arbre sur sol argileux et de 35,9 kg/arbre sur loam sableux 9 ans après la plantation mais 20,9 kg/arbre
sur sol argileux et à 21,6 kg/arbre sur loam sableux en moyenne 10 et 11 ans après la plantation; floraison : à La Pocatière
débute le 24 mai (22-26 mai) et dure 14 à 19 jours avec floraison maximale du 28 au 30 mai. Autres caractéristiques : mis à
l’essai sous la dénomination PL-218, même généalogie que Bluefre, prunier à pruneaux, le fruit reste sur l’arbre en bonne
condition après la date normale de cueillette, autoincompatible, produit bien
après pollinisation par California Blue, Stanley, Italian et Verity, variété
recommandée pour les conditions de croissance du Québec.
