Origin: very old European variety. P. domestica. Fruit: attractive, large, oval but narrowing a lot at both ends; cavity:
shallow, ridged; apex: roundish; suture: distinct, slightly depressed; stem: moderately thick, 25 mm long; skin: thick, rather
tough, golden yellow, dots are numerous, indistinct and white, thin white bloom; flesh: yellow, juicy, moderately coarse,
firm; stone: large, oval, cling; flavor: somewhat acid until it is very ripe, then it becomes sweet, not particularly pleasant;
quality: fair for fresh eating, best used for cooking, good for preserves; ripening season: September 11 in La Pocatiere.
Tree: somewhat hardy in La Pocatiere where trees were observed for 25 years, somewhat hardy in Frelighsburg, vigorous,
large, rather straggling, biennial bearer, started bearing at 10-12 years in La Pocatiere; yield: average in La Pocatiere was
13.6 kg per tree (absolute yield), average during productive years was 26.4 kg/tree; flowering: June 1 to 7 in La Pocatiere.
Other: self-fruitful, fruit tend to drop from trees grown in light soils.

Origine : très ancienne variété européenne. P.

rétréci aux deux extrémités; cavité pédonculaire : peu
profonde, crêtée; sommet : arrondi; suture : bien
marquée, légèrement en creux; pédoncule :
modérément épais, long de 25 mm; peau : épaisse,
plutôt coriace, jaune doré, avec de nombreux points
blancs peu marqués, avec une mince pruine blanche; chair
: jaune, juteuse, à texture modérément grossière, ferme;
noyau : gros, ovale, adhérent; saveur : plutôt acide jusqu’à ce
que le fruit soit très mûr, puis sucrée mais non particulièrement
agréable; qualité : passable pour la consommation en frais,
utile surtout pour la cuisson, bonne pour les confitures;
époque de maturité : le 11 septembre à La Pocatière.
Prunier : plutôt rustique à La Pocatière où les arbres ont
été observés pendant 25 ans, plutôt rustique à
Frelighsburg, vigoureux, grand, plutôt traînant,
produisant tous les deux ans, commençant à produire
entre 10 et 12 ans à La Pocatière; rendement : 13,6
kg/arbre en moyenne (rendement absolu) à La
Pocatière, 26,4 kg/arbre en moyenne pour les années
de production; floraison : du 1er au 7 juin à La
Pocatière. Autres caractéristiques : autocompatible,
l’arbre tend à perdre ses fruits s’il est cultivé sur sol
léger.
