EARLY GOLDEN

Origin: introduced by Fonthill Nurseries, Ontario in 1946. A Japanese type chance seedling perhaps from P. cerasifera x P.
salicina (possibly Shiro or Burbank). Fruit: medium to large, round; skin: golden with a high blush; flesh: golden, firm,
smooth, soluble solids are 12.6 % at maturity; stone: small, free; quality: good; ripening season: August 12-15 in La
Pocatiere, early in August in the Montreal area. Tree: not hardy in Frelighsburg and in La Pocatiere, vigorous, tendency to
bear biennially, starts bearing at 6 years; yield: in La Pocatiere average yield was 18.1 kg/tree on clay soil from 9 year old
trees but the trees had been affected by winter kill; flowering: in La Pocatiere, starts May 19 (range
May 15-22) and lasts 15-17 days, full bloom is
May 25-27. Other: can be picked 1 or 2 days
early and ripening will occur quickly in
storage, susceptible to shot-hole leaf spot, self-
unfruitful, sets well with pollen of Ozark
Premier, Burbank, Santa Rosa, Freeman,
Myrobalan B and O-3010.

Origine : cultivar introduit par les pépinières
Fonthill, en Ontario, en 1946. Semis de hasard
de prunier japonais, peut-être issu du
croisement P. cerasifera x P. salicina (peut-être
Shiro ou Burbank). Fruit : moyen à gros,
sphérique; peau : dorée avec lavis intense; chair
: dorée, ferme, à texture fine, renfermant à
maturité 12,6 % de solides solubles; noyau :
petit, libre; qualité : bonne; époque de maturité
: du 12 au 15 août à La Pocatière, début août
dans la région de Montréal. Prunier : non
rustique à Frelighsburg et à La Pocatière,
vigoureux, produisant à partir de 6 ans, ayant
tendance à produire tous les deux ans;
rendement : à La Pocatière, 18,1 kg/arbre en
moyenne pour des arbres de 9 ans cultivés sur
sol argileux qui avaient subi une dessiccation
hivernale; floraison : à La Pocatière débute le
19 mai (15-22 mai) et dure 15 à 17 jours avec
floraison maximale entre le 25 et le 27 mai.
Autres caractéristiques : les fruits cueillis un ou
deux jours avant la maturité finissent
rapidement de mûrir durant l’entreposage,
sensible à la criblure, autoincompatible, produit
bien après pollinisation par Ozark Premier,
Burbank, Santa Rosa, Freeman, Myrobalan B et
O-3010.
