EARLY ITALIAN

Origin: bud-sport of Italian. P. domestica. European type plum. Fruit: medium size, oval; skin: crimson blue; flesh: amber, a
little dry, firm, soluble solids are 15.4 % at maturity; stone: free; flavor: not very good to good depending on where grown;
quality: good, useful for canning; ripening season: mid-season, September 13 in La Pocatiere. Tree: not very hardy in La
Pocatiere (4 of 8 trees succumbed to winter injury over 14 years), long, bushy branches growing almost horizontally which
makes harvesting difficult, starts bearing at 5-7 years old depending on site; yield: somewhat low, average yield in La
Pocatiere after 9 years was 18.8 kg/tree and at maturity it was only 11.6 kg/tree, the decrease in yield was probably due to
winter kill; flowering: in La Pocatiere, starts May 25 (range May 23-27) and lasts 10-13 days, full bloom is May 28-30.
Other: resembles Italian but ripens 10-14 days earlier and is less productive, is pollinated by Bradshaw, Peach Plum,
Greengage and Damson.

Origine : mutation de bourgeon de prunier d’Italie. P. domestica. Prunier de type européen. Fruit : de grosseur moyenne,
ovale; peau : bleu pourpré; chair : ambrée, un peu sèche, ferme, renfermant à maturité 15,4 % de solides solubles; noyau :
libre; saveur : passable à bonne selon la localité; qualité : bonne, utile pour la mise en conserve; époque de maturité : mi-
saison, le 13 septembre à La Pocatière. Prunier : pas très rustique à La Pocatière (en 14 ans, 4 des 8 sujets ont été tués par
gelure), long, buissonnant, à branches presque horizontales ce qui rend la cueillette difficile, produisant à partir de 5 à 7 ans
selon la localité; rendement : plutôt faible, à La Pocatière 18,8 kg/arbre après 9 ans et seulement 11,6 kg/arbre à maturité
(diminution sans doute imputable à la dessiccation hivernale); floraison : à La Pocatière débute le 25 mai (23-27mai) et dure
10 à 13 jours avec floraison maximale entre le 28 et le 30 mai. Autres caractéristiques : ressemble au prunier Italian mais
produit moins et les fruits mûrissent 10 à 14 jours plus tôt, pollinisé par Bradshaw, Peach Plum, Greengage et Damson.
