Origin: introduced in 1920 by the University of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm, Excelsior, Minnesota. P. salicina (probably
‘Plum’) x P. americana. Hybrid type plum. Fruit: large if fruit are thinned, almost round; skin: fairly thick and tough, deep
red, with small, russeted dots, medium amount of bloom; flesh: yellow, firm, juicy, fine texture, tender; stone: medium size,
free or almost free; flavor: sweet, pleasant; quality: fairly good; ripening season: late, September 22 in La Pocatiere. Tree:
very hardy in La Pocatiere, medium size, quite prone to biennial bearing, starts bearing at 4 years, fairly vigorous; yield:
average yield at maturity during an ‘on’ year in La Pocatiere was 36.4 kg/tree but yield averaged out over 2 years was 21.8
kg/tree; flowering: May 25 to June 5 in La Pocatiere. Other: tested as Minn. 8.

juteuse, à texture fine, tendre; noyau : de grosseur moyenne, libre ou presque libre; saveur : sucrée, agréable; qualité : assez
bonne; époque de maturité : tardive, le 22 septembre à La Pocatière. Prunier : très rustique à La Pocatière, de grandeur
moyenne, produisant à partir de 4 ans, ayant tendance à produire tous les deux ans, assez vigoureux; rendement : à La
Pocatière 36,4 kg/arbre en moyenne à maturité pour une année productrice mais seulement
21,8 kg/arbre sur deux ans; floraison : du 25 mai au 5 juin à La Pocatière. Autres
caractéristiques : mis à l’essai sous la dénomination Minn. 8.

Origin: introduced in 1936 by the University of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm, Excelsior, Minnesota. Shiro (P. angustifolia
x P. cerasifera x P. salicina x P. simonii) x South Dakota 33. Hybrid type plum. Fruit: medium to large; skin: yellow with red
blush, medium amount of bloom; flesh: yellow, juicy, firm, fine texture, tender; stone: cling; flavor: sweet; quality: good for
dessert and cooking, keeps well for several weeks; ripening season: September 11 in Ottawa. Tree: hardy in Ottawa, low,
spreading, vigorous; flowering: in Ottawa, starts May 13 (range May 10-15) and lasts 7-9 days, full bloom is May 15. Other:
tested as Minn. 83, keeps well for 2-3 weeks after ripening.

septembre à Ottawa. Prunier : rustique à Ottawa, bas, étalé, vigoureux; floraison : à Ottawa débute le 13 mai (10-15 mai) et
dure 7 à 9 jours avec floraison maximale le 15 mai. Autres caractéristiques : mis à l’essai sous la
dénomination Minn. 83, se conserve bien 2 à 3 semaines après la maturité.
