Origin: introduced in 1921 by the University of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm, Excelsior,
Minnesota. Shiro (P. angustifolia x P. cerasifera x P. salicina x P. simonii) x Wyant (P.
americana). Hybrid type plum. Fruit: attractive, large, average weight is 39 g, round-conic
to distinctly conic; cavity: small; suture: indistinct or a line; stem: slender, rather short;
skin: smooth, a bit thick, somewhat astringent, yellow, partially or completely overlaid with
light to rich red with a faint waxy bloom; flesh: golden-yellow, tender, slightly stringy,
melting, juicy, soft; stone: oval, semi-cling; flavor: aromatic, sweet; quality: good; ripening
season: mid-August in Frelighsburg and in Ottawa, August 22 in Morden. Tree: hardy in
Frelighsburg, usually hardy in Morden, large, spreading shape, vigorous, diameter of trunk
at 25 cm after 7 years of growth was 377 mm in La Pocatiere, healthy, long lived tree, bears
annually; yield: good to very good in La Pocatiere 8 years after planting; flowering: in
Ottawa, starts May 12 (range May 10-14) and lasts 9 days with full bloom on May 15 (range May 12-17). Other: tested as

Minn. 91, not self-fruitful.

conique à distinctement conique; cavité pédonculaire : petite; suture :
indistincte ou limitée à une ligne; pédoncule : mince, plutôt court; peau :
lisse, un peu épaisse, plutôt astringente, jaune, entièrement ou partiellement
recouverte d’un lavis rouge clair à rouge vif, avec une vague pruine cireuse;
chair : jaune doré, tendre, légèrement filandreuse, fondante, juteuse, molle;
noyau : ovale, semi-adhérent; saveur : aromatique, sucrée; qualité : bonne;
époque de maturité : mi-août à Frelighsburg et à Ottawa, le 22 août à
Morden. Prunier : rustique à Frelighsburg, généralement rustique à Morden,
grand, étalé, vigoureux, à tronc atteignant 377 mm de diamètre à 25 cm
après 7 ans de croissance à La Pocatière, sain, à longue durée de vie,
produisant chaque année; rendement : bon à très bon à La Pocatière 8 ans
après la plantation; floraison : à Ottawa débute le 12 mai (10-14 mai) et
dure 9 jours avec floraison maximale le 15 mai (12-17 mai). Autres
caractéristiques : mis à l’essai sous la dénomination Minn. 91,
autoincompatible.
