Origin: introduced in 1932 by the University of Minnesota Fruit Breeding Farm, Excelsior, Minnesota. Burbank (P. salicina)
x Kaga (P. americana x P. simonii). Hybrid type plum. Fruit: large to very large, conic; apex: pointed; skin: easily removed
from flesh, dark red, heavy bloom, russet dots; flesh: golden-yellow, juicy, firm, tender, soluble solids are 15.8 % at maturity;
stone: cling; flavor: sweetish, sprightly, pleasant, a bit acid near skin; quality: very good especially for dessert; ripening
season: September 8 in Ottawa, September 20 in La Pocatiere. Tree: not very hardy in La Pocatiere (4 of 6 trees were
severely damaged in 14 years), hardy in Frelighsburg with a 3 on 3 rating for survival during the very harsh winter of 1989-
90, only fruitful after mild winters in Morden, very vigorous, fast growing, spreading, diameter of trunk at 25 cm after 7
years of growth was 278 mm in La Pocatiere, biennial bearer, starts bearing at 5
years; yield: heavier when pollinated with another plum, in Ottawa, maximum
was 39 kg/tree and average was 26.8 kg/tree; flowering: in Ottawa, starts
May 13 (range May 9-17) and lasts 8 days with full bloom on May 16
(range May 13-21), in La Pocatiere, starts May 21 (range May 19-24)
and lasts 16-24 days, full bloom is May 27 (range May 25-29).
Other: can be picked 1 or 2 days early and ripening will occur
quickly in storage, leaves were healthy in La Pocatiere (i.e. no
signs of diseases), tested as Minn. 194.

Origine : cultivar introduit en 1932 par la University of Minnesota
Fruit Breeding Farm, à Excelsior (Minnesota). Burbank (P. salicina)
x Kaga (P. americana x P. simonii). Prunier de type hybride. Fruit :
gros à très gros, conique; sommet : en saillie; peau : facile à séparer de la
chair, rouge foncé, très pruinée, avec points de liège; chair : jaune doré,
juteuse, ferme, tendre, renfermant 15,8 % de solides solubles à maturité; noyau :
adhérent; saveur : plutôt sucrée, vive, agréable, un peu acide près de la peau; qualité : très bonne particulièrement pour les
desserts; époque de maturité : le 8 septembre à Ottawa, le 20 septembre à La Pocatière. Prunier : pas très rustique à La
Pocatière (en 14 ans, 4 des 6 pruniers ont subis des dégâts graves durant l’hiver), rustique à Frelighsburg (taux de survie de 3
sur 3 après le très dur hiver de 1989-1990), produisant uniquement après les hivers doux à Morden, très vigoureux, à
croissance rapide, étalé, à tronc atteignant 278 mm de diamètre à 25 cm après 7 ans de croissance à La Pocatière, produisant

tous les deux ans, produisant à partir de 5
ans; rendement : plus élevé après
pollinisation par un autre prunier, à Ottawa
39 kg/arbre au maximum et 26,8 kg/arbre en
moyenne; floraison : à Ottawa débute le 13
mai (9-17 mai) et dure 8 jours avec floraison
maximale le 16 mai (13-21 mai), à La
Pocatière débute le 21 mai (19-24 mai) et
dure 16 à 24 jours avec floraison maximale le
27 mai (25-29 mai). Autres caractéristiques :
le fruit peut être cueilli 1 ou 2 jours à
l’avance et le mûrissement s’opère
rapidement durant l’entreposage, le feuillage
était sain à La Pocatière (aucun signe de
maladie), mis à l’essai sous la dénomination
Minn. 194.
